It's Nice Outside...

...and so all Chloe wants to do is go outside! Since the last post, I've trained her to ring a bell when she wants to go outside. It works mostly. Since she's learned, she hasn't had very many accidents. She rings it when she just wants to play though too... but at least she does SOMETHING now!
Chloe also plays much nicer with the kitties now. She doesn't bit them and trap them under her arm as much anymore, and sometimes the kitties even play back with her, batting her with their paws while she play-lunges as them! It's so cute!!
Chloe's bad habbits list is shrinking. She still jumps, but you can stop her sometimes. She likes to play-bite when she's playing with you, and it doesn't matter if it's your face, arm, leg, foot, whatever--and even though I know she doesn't mean to be mean, it still hurts sometimes! She likes to steal Andy's socks, but she doesn't eat them, she just carries them around and drops them where ever she feels like.
Last week, Chloe passed puppy class!! She still needs a little work before I want to take her to the next class though. She needs to be GREAT at her sit-stay, down, down-stay, come when called, drop it, and leave it before I take her to the next one. I don't want her to be behind. The class that I want to sign up for starts on Jan 11, so we have 2 months to get everything perfect (haha yeah right...)
She's a lot bigger than when we got her. At the vet last week she was 36 lbs! She said Chloe might only get up to 50 lbs! She'll be a small husky if she stays that small. Last week was her re-check for worms. Guess what?! She still has them plus another kind. So she has new medicine that you give 3 days in a row, then 3 days in a row in 3 weeks and then a re-check 6 weeks after that. The vet said that Chloe probably got it from herself so make sure to pick up her poop right after she does it. Don't you think that would be something nice to know the first time she had worms! I've never had to care for a dog before! The first med day, Chloe ate it just fine. It's runny so I mixed it with pumpkin. The next 2 days were terrible. She didn't want to eat it at all! The vet promised it tastes good. Hahaha! It'll be fun in 2 weeks when I have to do it again. I think I'm going to buy some canned wet dog food to mix it with for next time.

New Habbits

Chloe is still doing pretty good with potty training. She only has peeing accidents inside now. We have a fan for her crate. I think she likes it. She's doing really well on her new food we started on the 9th.

She is now jumping on the couches and trying to play with the blanket and pillows... it's super frustrating and I don't know how to make her stop. She didn't go on the furniture the first few weeks, so I'm not ever sure why she started. I read that maybe it's because we (humans) are always sitting on them so she thinks that it's more comfy up here. And I guess it probably is. I probably need to get her a doggie bed... but they're so expensive to get a good one. I don't want one that she's just going to destroy!

Chloe is also teething or going to be teething in the next few weeks. She can have ice cubes, frozen treats, dog toys made for teething... she just licks the ice cubes, I'm not sure what to freeze, and the teething bone I got her she doesn't like. I guess it's good that she wants to chew on blankets, towels, and rugs; things that are easy to replace.... but it would be nice if her toys were good enough for her!

First Day Not Coming Home For Lunch

Andy and I decided to not come home for lunch today. I've come home everyday since we got Chloe to take her out and feed her her middle meal. Today she got two meals, one morning and one after work. She didn't mind only two meals. She also made it through the day without messing up her crate! I warned Andy that it is only the first time trying it and she MAY make a mess in the near future since she's not used to not being let out during the day...

Wo-Zah-Wa

My mom and I took Chloe to Wo-Zah-Wa today. Everyone smiled and pet her... it was cute, until we just wanted to keep going. Mom put Chloe in a bag for part of the day. I'm surprised Chloe didn't try to get out harder... We also got kicked out of the park, thankfully when we were done. But what is with the park rules of 'no dogs'? How silly.
We watched the parade too. Chloe tried to sleep through it, but she didn't like the drums in the bands. Too loud and low pitched maybe?

Crate Training

Chloe got up around 2 this morning and started howling! I took her outside to go potty and when we came back to the door, I have accidentally left it open. I looked and around and found BOTH kitties wandering around on the new patio. They want to go outside, but then when they get there they have nowhere to go. It's pretty funny. I caught them both. I thought for sure Jody was going to run under the deck, but I got her first! That would have made a terrible night.

Chloe is getting better with her crate. She won't go in on her own, but if I take her over to it and put her front feet inside, she'll go in and lay or sit down and let me close the door without shoving her in. I think she'll get the hang of it yet!!

Hot Days

It's a bit hot for Chloe today, but I don't WANT to turn the air on. She gets a fan blowing in her crate. She didn't really know what to think about it this morning, but tonight she was laying in front of it while I was on the computer. I think she decided she likes it.

This past weekend, my aunt gave us a dogloo. Chloe also doesn't understand that it's for her to go inside and be shady.

First Run

Chloe and I went for our first run today. One mile in about 17 minutes... Chloe gets distracted too easily! But we met 2 new doggies and she's starting to learn what 'run', 'keep going', and 'leave it' mean.

Tomorrow I have a thing in a park in town. Do dogs allowed unless they're train for something with geese. I think that's so silly you can't bring your dog into a park on a leash...

First Puppy Class

Chloe and I had puppy class tonight. There's only 2 other puppies and they're both tiny little dogs. The instructer brough her dog too. He's bigger, more like what Chloe will be like. She likes him best I think. She rolls over and lets her sniff her. Silly puppy. One of the puppies tries to hump her though... I think he needs to be trained not to.
So, we were supposed to "load the clicker" a little in class. Click the clicker, give treat, repeat until when ever you push the clicker your dog expects a treat. Chloe wouldn't eat treats for to save her life and she LOVES them at home. The instructer brought out a few different kinds also and she wouldn't eat any of them either! Now I'm supposed to try to find treats for her for next week and mix hot dog in the treat bag to make them all smell good. I also shouldn't feed her right before class...oops!
After class, I thought Chloe had to go potty before we talked about a different harness. I took her outside and she wouldn't do anything becasue she was so worried about all the other smells and things out there. She needs to learn to go potty where ever there's grass!

Neigbors

Chloe, mom, and I met a bunch of the neighbors and their dogs tonight. Chloe really liked playing with all the other dogs! And hanging out with other people. It's SO hard to remember everyone's names though!

Potty training is going really well. She has only had a few accidents in the last few days. She has also been making it through the night! Although, she gets up VERY early and lets me know she's awake. I guess that's good though because then I know I need to take her outside. She just needs to get a little better at saying when she needs to go out when she's not in her crate.

Crate training is not going so well. She won't go in on her own when I say 'crate' and when I say 'crate' she just lays down because she doesn't want to go inside. I feel bad forcing her in, but she's getting used to it. Sometimes when I push her in, she'll lay down while I shut the door. I just wish she would go in on command.

We may start puppy class on Thursday, but I haven't decided yet. It's $109 for 8 weeks so ~$13.60 per week, I guess that's not so bad. I might look at one other place to go though before I decide.

Is Chloe Sick?

I woke up to find poo and vomit in Chloe's crate... She came out and shook, and poo went all over the rug. Yuck! I took her outside and she didn't poo, so I hope she's over whatever she had. She's running like normal and playing and her eyes look good, so I don't think anything major is wrong with her. Maybe she just ate something funny outside yesterday.

We spent some time outside today. She was tied closer to the deck and spend the time mostly sleeping on it. She was really cute.

Chloe has a new "trick" she likes to do. She likes to run upstairs faster than you to try to eat as much cat poop out of the litter box as possible, or grab a piece and run downstairs maybe before you notice. Great, huh?! My mom brought a gate over to put in front of the door, hopefully the cats can still go in to go potty. Later this evening, she also thought it would be fun to run upstairs and poo before I could get there AND be done before I got there so that I couldn't catch her/punish her/yell no. The gate didn't help this, maybe it needs to be at the bottom of the stairs.

Tired Puppy!

Chloe didn't poo in her crate again last night. But I slept on the couch all night again. Maybe I'll try sleeping upstairs tonight.

Chloe got to spend the WHOLE day outside today. She loved it most of the day and them got sick of being outside. I never thought she'd get sick of being outside!

I left Chloe in her crate to go shopping this evening, and she held her poo til I got home!! But she has the runs and has been outside 3 times since I've been home. I hope she's ok overnight. I'm not letting her out in the middle of the night and I'm not sleeping downstairs... **crosses fingers**

Foggy Morning

2AM today was pretty creepy. It was so foggy I couldn't see past the edge of my yard. Yuck. Luckily Chloe want potty really quick.

Chloe is doing really well. She goes potty everytime we go outside and she's behaving pretty well except for the whinning in the crate. She loves sitting outside, I just wish I had more time during the day to do that with her. She enjoys rolling in the puddle in the low spots in our yard! (Note: Fix low spots in the yard) She doesn't mind being wet, so I wonder how she'll like a bath.

We ventured out into the storm tonight. During the worst part of it. Let's just say she doesn't like rain THAT much. Also, too bad it let up in just a few mins, so we didn't even need to be out there!

One little piddle in the house today, but that's it! Probably because she was so excited and playing for awhile. Oops, I guess we need to learn her pacing just a little better.

No Laundry Today!!!

I got up in the middle of the night to take Chloe outside, and she went potty! Which also means... NO LAUNDRY!!! She made it through the night without making a mess.

This morning, Chloe and I went outside to do our routine. I took her back inside during my run though to feed her in her crate. She didn't eat much, but she needs to get used to being in there! I think she might be getting better, but I'm not sure. She SO badly wants to take her hedge hog outside! She carries it around and whines at the door. I think that she just wants to show hedge hog the yard, but I'm not sure. But if she could carry it around everywhere, she would. I let her have it in her crate today too since she's had two days without messing it up during the day.
Andy took off today, but he decided to try to keep her normal weekday routine. She cried all morning, probably because she knew that he was home and not playing with her. This afternoon she was quieter.

Chloe had her first vet appointment today! She's totally healthy except she has worms. This is probably why she's been having watery poo and it might be why she can't go over night without needing to go potty.

We did a little mini crate training, but I don't think she gets it yet that when she's in there she needs to be quiet and take a nap or just lay down and be good. She LOVES being right next to one of us all the time, so it's really hard to teach her otherwise. Feeding her in the crate is sort of hard. I tried shutting the door on her when I put the food is, but then she doesn't hardly eat anything. Then I take it away, so she'll learn soon that when there's food, she should eat it instead of crying.

Potty training is going really well though. Chloe only had one near accident today. She's really good about holding it while she's in her crate even if she's crying!

Rainy Day...Whooo!

After another poopy night and laundry filled morning, I've decided to get up in the middle of the night to take care of Chloe. Hopefully then she won't poo in her crate during the night. That's no fun to take care of every morning.

I also finally made it to the pet store! I got the shampoo that we badly need and a Kong for Chloe to play with during the day. I also got a new toy and my mom got her some treats and another toy. She's a lucky puppy!
Chloe was very good today, but she's been pooping a lot (outside though!). I hope she's not sick. When I got home Chloe asked (!) to go outside. She went right up to the door and jumped up and then sat there waiting. When we got outside it was slightly raining and we didn't mind, but then it poured for a few mins. I thought that Chloe would want to go inside right away, but she LOVED it in the rain. There was even thunder. I'm glad she's not afraid. She even went potty in the rain! She rolled in the grass and in the little puddles in our yard. And when we finally can in, she was SOAKED!! Luckily I had a towel downstairs.
I put Chloe's dinner inside her crate, something I should have done from the very first day, but didn't think of. She now goes inside quickly to grab a bit and run out. Her water is in there too, so she does the same thing for that. Hopefully she'll get used to her crate slowly.

Wish me luck tonight, getting up in the middle of the night and also trying to get Chloe back in her crate afterwards! Also, wish Andy luck tomorrow because he'll be home alone with Chloe all day. I wonder if he'll keep her in her crate like normal for during the week or not... I guess we'll see.

Home Alone

I do not think that Chloe has spearation anxiety, but she certainly doesn't like to be alone. Outside seems to be her favorite place and yet she doesn't like to be alone there either.

Chloe cried during the night and pooed in her crate again. This time she covered it up with shreds from the training mat under her blanket. Poor puppy though, I believe she sort of sat in it! And I haven't made that trip to the pet store yet. We went outside, she peed and then we played for 30 mins before my run. Someday I hope she can come with me. I left her in her outside kennel and she whinned as I walked away. BUT when I came back, she had pooed outside! So, time for some more playtime!
Andy and I need to figure out a way to get Chloe to go in her crate willingly. Forcing her in is not the best thing to do when we're trying to develop the habbit of it being a safe place, but what else are we supposed to do when we need to leave in the morning?

We decided to come home for lunch. Chloe spent a little over 3 hours in her crate and didn't make any messes!! She came out and almost started peeing on the floor, but Andy caught her in time and she went outside. She decided not to poo, so the next 3.5-4 hours in her crate might be a little scary.

She made it another 1/2 day with no accidents in her crate!! Today has been great. She only started to piddle three times in the house, but got caught and pulled outside before anything major happend. It's so much fun outside too! Chloe chases buttterflies and crickets and other bugs and pounces on them like a kitty. She rolls around in the grass like it's the most fun thing EVER! Both kitties stayed downstains almost all night after work too. I think they're getting better with Chloe being around. Actually, Chloe is a little afraid of them. She won't come inside if they are sitting at the door or close too it. What a silly puppy!

Sleepy Puppy

After all the sleeping Chloe did all day, I'm not sure why she would sleep at night. I'm almost sure she didn't. She cried all night, and when I peeked in the crate, she was huddling in the corner.
We're trying to crate train Chloe-for at night and whenever we leave the house. She is supposed to like her crate. It's supposed to be a safe place and when she goes in it, no one should bother her. But she doesn't like it in there, even though I put the blanket that she loves and her chewy bone and her tug toy... She needs to learn to like it soon.

So, I came downstairs this morning to find poo in her crate again! But this time worse. She must have sort of sat in it and walked through it. Great... time for a bath. Guess what we don't have? Dog shampoo which means another trip to the pet store soon.
I took Chloe outside to go potty, since she didn't pee in her crate. We were out there for ~30 min and she wouldn't go! Once inside, she starts to piddle on the carpet. I yell no, and push her outside. After another 20 min, she still doesn't pee. Back inside we go, where to decides to pee where she pooed the last two days. Luckily, I had put that training pad on the floor in that spot.

Success! I took Chloe outside and once she pooed and the second time she peed. Maybe she's getting it? I'm not holding my breath. She's so cute outside though. Running and flopping all over in the grass. She loves the shade and once she finds it, it's hard to get her out of it. She'll run through the sprinkler with me, but get confused when she gets wet. She doesn't understand what a walk is yet, but it's fun to try!

Chloe isn't afraid to run out of our yard anymore... that's disappointing. I was hoping she'd just never get over that. Also, when I sat on the steps last time we went outside, she decided to crawl on my back and just sit there! Then she crawled into my lap. She's such a cutie!

The final count: 6 pees outside, 4 pees inside, 3 poos outside, and 1 poo in the crate over night.

Tomorrow will be a challenge. Chloe will be in her crate while we're at work as well as at night. Do we need to come home during lunch? Would it even matter if we did? So much laundry...

First Full Day Home

Bright and early morning today. I came downstairs to find poo all over Chloe's cage. Hopefully she won't do it again because I'm sure that's why she was crying almost all night. I took her outside but she still wouldn't pee. We attempted to go for a walk. Chloe was so interested in smelling everything an eating grass that we barely made it a block before running all the way home. She does rolls in the grass though. It's very cute. I was I had my camera on our mini walk.
Chloe got to meet my parents today. When she did, she finally peed! And outside!!
Trip #1 to the pet supply store. Treats that aren't so "weird". Before we got her, we picked up some freeze dried chicken breast. Sounds good right? Well, I also think that she probably never had treats where she came from. I picked up some more "normal" bone shaped treats, but really healthy ones. She likes these much better. The chicken will take some getting used to.
Another poo in the house. Almost in the same spot. Ugh! Silly puppy. BUT she peed outside again... small victories. I put a puppy training pad in that spot, just in case...

So we also have two cats-Zoey and Jody. Jody spent most of the day downstairs, creeping up on Chloe while she's sleeping or sitting up high enough that Chloe couldn't reach her. She does hiss is they get too close to each other, but Chloe only barked once. All Chloe really wants to do is play with them and kiss them. Zoey, on the other hand, doesn't want anything to do with Chloe. She was downstairs maybe half the day, but always up high in the cat tower.

Getting Chloe

Andy and I left the house around 5AM to drive 5-ish hours to IOWA! What a long morning... When we arrived, our puppy was waiting in a little pen in the garage with her sister. What a pair of cutie pies! We got to meet her parents. Her mum was mostly black, average size. Her dad is HUGE!! Five inch paws with a massive head and body. Hopefully she doesn't get THAT big.
So, we put Chloe in the car and she's not quite sure if we're ok to be with. We drive 3 hours to LaCrosse for Toppers and to eat at a park, only to find that we couldn't bring our new puppy into the park. What kind of park doesn't allow dogs? :'(  Then we stopped at the next rest stop so that Chloe could actually get out of the car. We learned she doesn't much like being in the sunshine, probably because it's too hot. Once she got to play with us a little bit, she decided that we were alright to be around.
We got home and went out into the yard. She hadn't peed the whole ride home and she didn't need to potty now either. We went inside and were setting up her food and water and she pooed on the floor-on the carpet, like 2 inches from the laminate (of course)-wet, mooshy poo.... awesome. It was then that I realized that she lived in an indoor/outdoor kennel and isn't potty trained or used to being in a house.
The good things abour her never being in a house? She doesn't jump on the furniture and she is afraid to go upstairs.
