After another poopy night and laundry filled morning, I've decided to get up in the middle of the night to take care of Chloe. Hopefully then she won't poo in her crate during the night. That's no fun to take care of every morning.
I also finally made it to the pet store! I got the shampoo that we badly need and a Kong for Chloe to play with during the day. I also got a new toy and my mom got her some treats and another toy. She's a lucky puppy!
Chloe was very good today, but she's been pooping a lot (outside though!). I hope she's not sick. When I got home Chloe asked (!) to go outside. She went right up to the door and jumped up and then sat there waiting. When we got outside it was slightly raining and we didn't mind, but then it poured for a few mins. I thought that Chloe would want to go inside right away, but she LOVED it in the rain. There was even thunder. I'm glad she's not afraid. She even went potty in the rain! She rolled in the grass and in the little puddles in our yard. And when we finally can in, she was SOAKED!! Luckily I had a towel downstairs.
I put Chloe's dinner inside her crate, something I should have done from the very first day, but didn't think of. She now goes inside quickly to grab a bit and run out. Her water is in there too, so she does the same thing for that. Hopefully she'll get used to her crate slowly.
Wish me luck tonight, getting up in the middle of the night and also trying to get Chloe back in her crate afterwards! Also, wish Andy luck tomorrow because he'll be home alone with Chloe all day. I wonder if he'll keep her in her crate like normal for during the week or not... I guess we'll see.
I got a new Siberian Husky puppy-Chloe. She was born on 6-6-2010 in Iowa. This is what I've gotten myself into!

Home Alone
I do not think that Chloe has spearation anxiety, but she certainly doesn't like to be alone. Outside seems to be her favorite place and yet she doesn't like to be alone there either.
Chloe cried during the night and pooed in her crate again. This time she covered it up with shreds from the training mat under her blanket. Poor puppy though, I believe she sort of sat in it! And I haven't made that trip to the pet store yet. We went outside, she peed and then we played for 30 mins before my run. Someday I hope she can come with me. I left her in her outside kennel and she whinned as I walked away. BUT when I came back, she had pooed outside! So, time for some more playtime!
Andy and I need to figure out a way to get Chloe to go in her crate willingly. Forcing her in is not the best thing to do when we're trying to develop the habbit of it being a safe place, but what else are we supposed to do when we need to leave in the morning?
We decided to come home for lunch. Chloe spent a little over 3 hours in her crate and didn't make any messes!! She came out and almost started peeing on the floor, but Andy caught her in time and she went outside. She decided not to poo, so the next 3.5-4 hours in her crate might be a little scary.
She made it another 1/2 day with no accidents in her crate!! Today has been great. She only started to piddle three times in the house, but got caught and pulled outside before anything major happend. It's so much fun outside too! Chloe chases buttterflies and crickets and other bugs and pounces on them like a kitty. She rolls around in the grass like it's the most fun thing EVER! Both kitties stayed downstains almost all night after work too. I think they're getting better with Chloe being around. Actually, Chloe is a little afraid of them. She won't come inside if they are sitting at the door or close too it. What a silly puppy!

Sleepy Puppy
After all the sleeping Chloe did all day, I'm not sure why she would sleep at night. I'm almost sure she didn't. She cried all night, and when I peeked in the crate, she was huddling in the corner.
We're trying to crate train Chloe-for at night and whenever we leave the house. She is supposed to like her crate. It's supposed to be a safe place and when she goes in it, no one should bother her. But she doesn't like it in there, even though I put the blanket that she loves and her chewy bone and her tug toy... She needs to learn to like it soon.
So, I came downstairs this morning to find poo in her crate again! But this time worse. She must have sort of sat in it and walked through it. Great... time for a bath. Guess what we don't have? Dog shampoo which means another trip to the pet store soon.
I took Chloe outside to go potty, since she didn't pee in her crate. We were out there for ~30 min and she wouldn't go! Once inside, she starts to piddle on the carpet. I yell no, and push her outside. After another 20 min, she still doesn't pee. Back inside we go, where to decides to pee where she pooed the last two days. Luckily, I had put that training pad on the floor in that spot.
Success! I took Chloe outside and once she pooed and the second time she peed. Maybe she's getting it? I'm not holding my breath. She's so cute outside though. Running and flopping all over in the grass. She loves the shade and once she finds it, it's hard to get her out of it. She'll run through the sprinkler with me, but get confused when she gets wet. She doesn't understand what a walk is yet, but it's fun to try!
Chloe isn't afraid to run out of our yard anymore... that's disappointing. I was hoping she'd just never get over that. Also, when I sat on the steps last time we went outside, she decided to crawl on my back and just sit there! Then she crawled into my lap. She's such a cutie!
The final count: 6 pees outside, 4 pees inside, 3 poos outside, and 1 poo in the crate over night.
Tomorrow will be a challenge. Chloe will be in her crate while we're at work as well as at night. Do we need to come home during lunch? Would it even matter if we did? So much laundry...

First Full Day Home
Bright and early morning today. I came downstairs to find poo all over Chloe's cage. Hopefully she won't do it again because I'm sure that's why she was crying almost all night. I took her outside but she still wouldn't pee. We attempted to go for a walk. Chloe was so interested in smelling everything an eating grass that we barely made it a block before running all the way home. She does rolls in the grass though. It's very cute. I was I had my camera on our mini walk.
Chloe got to meet my parents today. When she did, she finally peed! And outside!!
Trip #1 to the pet supply store. Treats that aren't so "weird". Before we got her, we picked up some freeze dried chicken breast. Sounds good right? Well, I also think that she probably never had treats where she came from. I picked up some more "normal" bone shaped treats, but really healthy ones. She likes these much better. The chicken will take some getting used to.
Another poo in the house. Almost in the same spot. Ugh! Silly puppy. BUT she peed outside again... small victories. I put a puppy training pad in that spot, just in case...
So we also have two cats-Zoey and Jody. Jody spent most of the day downstairs, creeping up on Chloe while she's sleeping or sitting up high enough that Chloe couldn't reach her. She does hiss is they get too close to each other, but Chloe only barked once. All Chloe really wants to do is play with them and kiss them. Zoey, on the other hand, doesn't want anything to do with Chloe. She was downstairs maybe half the day, but always up high in the cat tower.

Getting Chloe
Andy and I left the house around 5AM to drive 5-ish hours to IOWA! What a long morning... When we arrived, our puppy was waiting in a little pen in the garage with her sister. What a pair of cutie pies! We got to meet her parents. Her mum was mostly black, average size. Her dad is HUGE!! Five inch paws with a massive head and body. Hopefully she doesn't get THAT big.
So, we put Chloe in the car and she's not quite sure if we're ok to be with. We drive 3 hours to LaCrosse for Toppers and to eat at a park, only to find that we couldn't bring our new puppy into the park. What kind of park doesn't allow dogs? :'( Then we stopped at the next rest stop so that Chloe could actually get out of the car. We learned she doesn't much like being in the sunshine, probably because it's too hot. Once she got to play with us a little bit, she decided that we were alright to be around.
We got home and went out into the yard. She hadn't peed the whole ride home and she didn't need to potty now either. We went inside and were setting up her food and water and she pooed on the floor-on the carpet, like 2 inches from the laminate (of course)-wet, mooshy poo.... awesome. It was then that I realized that she lived in an indoor/outdoor kennel and isn't potty trained or used to being in a house.
The good things abour her never being in a house? She doesn't jump on the furniture and she is afraid to go upstairs.
